Fear Can Sometimes Overshadow Faith
Weekly Sermon Content Package · The People’s Church COGIC · Houston, TX
Sermon Overview
The foundation for all content this week
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” — Isaiah 41:10
Core Message: Fear is real — but it is never the final word. God’s declaration in Isaiah 41:10 is a direct, personal promise: “I am with you. I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you.” Four times God said “I will.” When fear speaks first, faith can rise louder.

The devil’s whole strategy is simple: get you to stop. Stop believing. Stop trusting. Stop walking. Stop dreaming. Not because he has the power to take you out — but because if you stop moving, he doesn’t have to.
I preached Sunday from Isaiah 41:10 and the word hit different: “Fear not, for I am with you.” Four times in that one verse God said “I will.” That wasn’t for Israel alone — that was for you, right now, in whatever you’re facing.
Don’t stop. Don’t quit. Don’t let fear have the last word. God already said HE WILL.

Day 2 · Tuesday 📚 Facebook + Instagram
Tuesday Word → You know what worry really is? A rocking chair. It keeps you going — all night, all morning, all week — but it never gets you anywhere. You can stay up until 3am rocking on that fear, running through every scenario, rehearsing every “what if” — and when the sun comes up, you’re still in the same spot.
God’s answer to that rocking chair is Isaiah 41:10. “I am thy God.” Not “I was.” Not “I might be.” I AM. Get off the rocking chair. Get in His word. He’s already working.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” — Isaiah 41:10
Read it again. Slowly. God didn’t say “try not to be afraid.” He said “FEAR NOT — because I am WITH you.” Your reason to release fear isn’t willpower. It’s His presence. He is with you today.

Day 4 · Thursday 💪 Instagram + Facebook
Can I be honest with you for a moment? Fear doesn’t always come from the outside. Sometimes it comes from within — whispers that say you’re not going to make it, you wasted your time, you’re too old, too far gone, too broken. Nobody called you. Nobody texted you. It just showed up on the inside.
But I came to remind you: the same God who told Israel “be not dismayed” while they were facing Babylonian captivity is speaking to you right now. Whatever you’re facing is better than being stuck. Because God has a blessing waiting for you on the other side of it. Slide over. Make some room. The blessings are coming.

Day 5 · Friday 🎥 Facebook Video Clip + Instagram Reel
CLIP SUGGESTION: Use the segment beginning with: “Fear is like a 2-year-old baby who just started walking...” through “...he just wanted him to stop.” This is the most visual, story-driven moment in the sermon — Sharita learning to walk. Runs approximately 90 seconds. Perfect for Reels.
POST CAPTION: The devil doesn’t always come to destroy you. Sometimes he just wants you to stop. Stop walking. Stop believing. Stop showing up. But I want you to know something: that bark you’re hearing? It doesn’t mean stop. It means keep going. Watch this clip from Sunday’s message and tag somebody who needs to hear it.

Church Family,
Sunday morning, the word came through Isaiah 41:10 with a clarity I believe many of us needed.
Fear can sometimes overshadow faith.
Not because fear is stronger than God — it is not. But because fear speaks first. It shows up in the morning before your feet hit the floor. It whispers in the quiet moments. It magnifies the problem and minimizes the promise.
But I want you to hold on to this: “Fear speaks first — but it’s not the final word.”
Four times in that one verse, God declared “I will.”
I will strengthen thee
I will help thee
I will uphold thee
I will deliver thee with the right hand of my righteousness
That wasn’t a suggestion. That wasn’t a possibility. That was a covenant declaration from the God who is omnipresent — who can leave where He was, go where He’s going, and when He gets there, still be where He was.
Whatever you are carrying this week — the diagnosis, the financial pressure, the broken relationship, the uncertainty about the future — I want you to speak Isaiah 41:10 out loud over your situation. Not because it’s a magic formula, but because it’s the truth. And it’s the truth you know that sets you free.
“You are about to come out of a season of despair, a season of rejection, a season of loss, a season of subtraction — to a season of addition, multiplication, and expansion.”
Slide over. Make some room. The blessings are coming.
I’m praying for every member of this family by name this week. Come back Sunday and let’s keep building our faith together.
Trusting Him with you,
Bishop Destry C. Bell, Sr.

Day 1 · Monday — When Fear Speaks First
Scripture: Isaiah 41:10
Fear has a voice. Most of us know it well — it speaks in the quiet moments, in the space between sleep and waking, in the pause before a phone call you’ve been dreading. Fear speaks first. That is its nature.
But here is what I want you to understand: speaking first does not mean speaking last. God’s word has the final say. Isaiah 41:10 is not a suggestion that you try to feel better — it is a command backed by a covenant. “Fear not” is only possible because the next four words are true: “for I am with thee.”
His presence is your reason. Not your willpower. Not your circumstances. Him.
Today’s Prayer: Lord, fear has already spoken today. I’ve heard it. I won’t pretend otherwise. But I choose right now to let Your word speak louder. You said You are with me. I receive that. I rest in that. Fear does not get the final say — You do. Amen.
Day 2 · Tuesday — The Rocking Chair
Scripture: Psalm 34:4
Worry is a rocking chair. It keeps you going, it keeps you moving, it makes you feel like you’re doing something — but when you look up, you’re in the same spot. You haven’t moved an inch.
The Psalmist found a better way. He said: “I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.” Not some. All. He didn’t sit up all night rocking through his fears — he brought them to God and let God answer.
The discipline is not the absence of fear — it is the decision to seek God in the presence of it. Get off the rocking chair. Get into His presence. Let Him answer.
Today’s Prayer: Father, I’ve been rocking in worry long enough. I’m getting up. I’m seeking You today — not a feeling, not a sign, not a circumstance. You. Deliver me from the fear I’ve been rehearsing. Answer me, Lord. I’m listening. Amen.
Day 3 · Wednesday — Participate in Your Deliverance
Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:7
God wants to move on your behalf — but He requires your participation. He’s not going to do what you are able to do. He’s going to do what only He can do. And the gap between those two things is where faith lives.
God has not given you a spirit of fear — He has given you power, love, and a sound mind. That sound mind means you have the capacity to make better choices, form better habits, confront what you’ve been avoiding. You can’t pray your way around participation.
What is one area of your life today where God is waiting on your participation? Name it. Take one step. That step is an act of faith.
Today’s Prayer: Lord, show me where I’ve been waiting on You to do what You’ve already given me the power to do. I receive the spirit of power, love, and a sound mind today. Show me my one step. I’ll take it. Amen.
Day 4 · Thursday — The Dog That Just Wanted You to Stop
Scripture: Joshua 1:9
The barking isn’t always a threat. Sometimes it’s just noise designed to make you stop. That’s the devil’s assignment. Not to destroy you — he doesn’t have that power. But to get you to stop moving, stop believing, stop giving, stop showing up. Because if you stop, he wins without a fight.
Joshua 1:9 says “have not I commanded you? Be strong and courageous.” That’s not a suggestion — it’s a command backed by a promise: “for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Wherever. In the barking. In the noise. In the chaos. He is with you.
Keep walking. The dog doesn’t want anything from you. He just wants you to stop.
Today’s Prayer: Lord, I hear the barking. I’m not going to pretend I don’t. But I refuse to stop. You commanded me to be strong. You promised to go with me. I’m holding You to that today. I’m still walking. Amen.
Day 5 · Friday — From Paralysis to Purpose
Scripture: Romans 8:38-39
Fear imposes limitations on you. It tells you what you can’t do, where you can’t go, what you can’t become. But Romans 8:38-39 says there is absolutely nothing — no death, no life, no power, nothing in all creation — that can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
That’s not a limited promise. That’s a declaration of total security. And total security is the foundation of total faith. When you know that nothing can separate you from His love, fear loses its leverage. You can step out. You can trust. You can move from paralysis to purpose. There is purpose assigned to your name. Don’t let fear hold it hostage any longer.
Today’s Prayer: Father, I receive this truth today: nothing can separate me from Your love. Not what I’ve done. Not what I’m facing. Not what I’m afraid of. I am secure in You. From that security, I step into purpose. Use me, Lord. All of me. Amen.

Supporting
2 Tim 1:7, Joshua 1:9, Psalm 34:4, Romans 8:38-39
Format
60–75 minutes, small group or mid-week service
Materials
Bible, this guide, pen/journal
Session Objectives
- Identify the root triggers of fear in participants’ lives
- Understand the difference between acknowledging fear and surrendering to it
- Ground faith-over-fear in specific, personal action steps
- Build a scriptural framework participants can return to all week
Opening (10 minutes)
Open in prayer, then read Isaiah 41:10 aloud together. Ask someone to read it a second time — slowly.
Ice Breaker Question: Think about the last time you felt fear about a specific situation in your life. Without sharing too many details, what did that fear tell you that turned out to be wrong?
Part 1: When Fear Speaks First (15 minutes)
Key Teaching Point: Fear speaks first — but it is not the final word. The issue is not the presence of fear but whether we let fear define our response.
Discussion Questions:
- Bishop Bell said “fear speaks first, but it’s not the final word.” What does that mean practically for a decision you’re facing right now?
- Read 2 Timothy 1:7. What three things has God given us instead of fear? How do they work together as a response to fear?
- What is the difference between acknowledging fear and surrendering to it? Is it possible to be honest about fear and still walk in faith?
Scripture Dig: Compare Isaiah 41:10 with Joshua 1:9. What do both passages have in common? What does the repetition of this command across different books of the Bible tell us about how seriously God takes our fear?
Part 2: God’s Resources Overcome Our Lack (15 minutes)
Key Teaching Point: God’s answer to fear is not just comfort — it is empowerment. Four times in Isaiah 41:10 God declares “I will.” He does not suggest. He declares.
Discussion Questions:
- Break down the four “I will” declarations in Isaiah 41:10. Which one speaks most directly to where you are right now, and why?
- Bishop Bell said God is omnipresent — “He can leave where He was, go where He’s going, and when He gets there, still be where He was.” How does God’s omnipresence change the way you face uncertainty?
- Read Romans 8:38-39. How does the assurance that nothing can separate you from God’s love affect your capacity to act in faith?
Scripture Dig: Read Psalm 34:4. The Psalmist says “I sought the Lord and he delivered me from ALL my fears.” Not some. All. What does it take to seek God in the middle of fear — not just pray about circumstances, but genuinely seek Him?
Part 3: Faith in Action — You Have to Participate (15 minutes)
Key Teaching Point: God requires our participation in our deliverance. He will do what only He can do — but the gap between His promise and our experience is often closed by our obedience.
Discussion Questions:
- Bishop Bell said, “Whatever you need, you’re going to have to participate in your deliverance.” What area of your life is God asking you to participate in right now — not just pray about, but actually do something about?
- He also said, “The truth you know is what sets you free.” (John 8:32) What specific truth from God’s word do you need to know — really know, not just intellectually agree with — to walk free in an area where fear has held you?
- Bishop Bell said faith is not the denial of danger — “Faith is acknowledging that danger is there but believing God in faith to change it.” How is that different from positive thinking or just ignoring the problem?
Application & Closing (10–15 minutes)
Personal Commitment Exercise
Have each participant complete these three sentences in writing before sharing:
- The specific fear I am choosing to no longer surrender to is: ________________________________
- The specific truth from God’s word I am going to stand on this week is: ________________________________
- The one participation step I am going to take before next Sunday is: ________________________________
Closing Declaration — Speak Together:
“There is purpose assigned to my name. I am coming out of a season of subtraction into a season of multiplication. The blessings are coming. I refuse to stop. God is with me — and that’s all I need.”
Close in prayer. Dismiss with Isaiah 41:10 spoken one final time as a blessing.
